FUNDRAISING & SPONSORSHIP POLICIES
The RMMHA believes in providing opportunities for all members to access our association's programs at reasonable and fair costs. The RMMHA also has a long history as a participative association, and wishes to hold on to the sense of community and participative nature of our programs which set us apart from some minor hockey associations, with reasonable expenditures of personal time.
Association Level
To accomplish these goals, on behalf of the board of directors, the Fundraising Co-Ordinator will manage annual programs to subsidize the cost of registration. These fundraising programs will typically include activities such as (example only) lotteries and sponsorships.
Lotteries will be conducted in such a manner, and with ample time to provide families with the opportunity to sell or keep the tickets for their own opportunities to win prizes.
As part of the 2007/08 season registration, each family was required to provide a cheque for $70.00. $50.00 was to pay for the RMMHA raffle tickets and $20.00 was to pay for two tickets to an Ottawa 67's game (value of $26.00). During the season each family will receive a book of raffle tickets valued at $50.00. They can choose to sell the tickets and keep the proceeds as the tickets have already been paid for as part of the Fundraising. Each family was also required to provide a $100 cheque, per registered player, for canteen duty. Provided that the required canteen duties are fulfilled, these cheques will not be cashed. If the first or second scheduled duties are missed, all remaining duties will be cancelled and the $100 cheque will be cashed. If the third duty is missed, the $100 cheque will be cashed with a $50 refund mailed to you.
Sponsors will be recognized by the RMMHA through means such as (example only) Sponsor bars on jerseys, copies of team photos, mention on RMMHA web site and publications, and invitation to the Annual General Meeting. While assigned to a team, the financial benefit is shared through the Association to subsidize registration costs.
Team Level
Teams wishing to undertake participative activities, not otherwise undertaken by the RMMHA as a whole, may do so to raise reasonable amounts of money to offset tournament or other team costs. These activities include those such as (example only) bottle drives, car washes, garage sales, or prize table type activities at RMMHA tournaments. These must be cleared with the Fundraising Co-Ordinator to ensure multiple teams are not competing with one another directly and in a similar timeframe.
The RMMHA does not support direct financial sponsorship of teams for two reasons;
1)
This creates a 'have'/ 'have-not' distinction with respect to team wealth and opportunity.
2)
Current sponsors could be inclined to directly sponsor only those teams with which their sons/daughters are aligned, eroding the overall RMMHA sponsor base, furthering inequity between teams.
The result is that there is one method of raising additional funds at the team level...participative efforts, which not only help financially but help to build team spirit and cohesion. While recognizing that there are other valuable perspectives, and after significant discussion in February 2003, this remains the position of the RMMHA Board of Directors.
