Finalists of the
Almonte-Pakenham Tournament
The Richmond Royals dressed and prepared for the first game
of the day early Sunday morning, battling the sniffles, sneezing and coughing.
Regardless of their pains and ailments, they played like the champions they are
after their feat in
Damon Burtt sets the pace by scoring the first goal of the game, which was followed by another three goals scored by Jarret Mowat (assisted by Ben Simpson, Damon Burtt), Joshua Foran (assisted by Evan Marr, Tyler Kerr) and Kirk Fontyn (assisted by Evan Marr) for a nice win 4-1 against Nepean Dynamite.
After a wonderful lunch at JR’s in Almonte, the Royals retuned to the ice with the help of some gravol, decongestant and a box of tissues to face Osgoode Rideau Outlaws for the second game. The Royals Captain, Patrick St. Jean scored the first (assisted by Kirk Fontyn) and the second goal (assisted by Jarret Mowat) of the game. With a final attempt to score, the Outlaws pulled their Goalie which cost them an empty-netter, scored by Ben Simpson to seal the game at 3-0. Dylan Dziadyk (G) who was on fire throughout the whole tournament, earned himself another shutout.
The Royals took the ice for the championship game against
Kanata Cyclones. The teams skated, checked and moved the puck swiftly and
skillfully but the first tense period was scoreless. In the second period,
The Royals still prevailed in their accomplishments, and in the coach’s own words “Your efforts in the last game yesterday were tremendous, the legs just could not keep up with your hearts, and you still managed to scare the other team. Your coaches and your parents know who the best team was out there last night.......Richmond Royals Pee Wee A!”
