THIS YEAR IN REVIEW:
This year seemed to proceed quite smoothly, perhaps because it was my second year or perhaps because the Managers and Coaches of this year’s teams did an excellent job of keeping me informed of tournaments and special events. I believe that communication is the key to avoiding conflicts.
This year Hockey Development had 5 teams again. We ended up having 2 four-year-old teams and 3 five and six year old teams. Since the 2 four-year-old teams didn’t have a lot of players they shared ˝ ice most of the time. When we had some extra ice we would allow 1 of the 3 older teams to have and hour of ice in Beckwith. This allowed one of the older teams to have a full ice practice or exhibition game to get them ready to move to Novice. .
I realize that Saturday and Sunday practices at 6am or 5pm during the week are nobodies favourite. Unfortunately they are a fact of life. I tried to divide these time slots up equally over the season. Please remember that I am working around game schedules, so the rotation for the teams will not always be the same, and you may find yourself with two 6 am practices close together, but over the season, the 6am’s will be divided equally. This being said I didn’t schedule the Midgets at 6am since they practice and have games late at night.
Shared ice was an issue with many people this year. However, as you can see by the number of teams and hours of ice per week, with games to schedule, I would not be able to give each team an hour practice each week without shared ice. Some weeks it was difficult to give everyone a practice even with shared ice. The Novice teams had small teams this year so they had the majority of shared ice. That being said they still had quite a bit of full ice as well.
I have attached a copy of the practice ice that was given during the regular season as well as during playoffs. Keep in mind that during the March break we had a lot of ice that teams were able to pick up extra ice if the coach was available.
In closing I would like to congratulate all the teams that made it to the playoffs.
Thanks again for the great year.
