2008-2009 Hockey Operations Report
Benoit St-Jean
Tim Johnson
The
2008-2009 season has been very successful in
developing our players and introducing new players to the game of Hockey.
Including Hockey Development, we had 22 teams. This year, 1
team finished first in its division to win the season banner. All teams participated in the playoffs round
robin and 8 teams were playoff finalists. Our kids brought to the RMMHA 5
Playoff Championship Banners, including a sweep of all 3 Pee Wee divisions.
Again this
year we chose to keep working with smaller teams, in order to keep the kids on
the ice more often in each game and supporting the hard work in practices.
Looking forward, our Novice program was very strong at all levels, a testimony
of the hard work being put in at the Hockey development level. With the help of our coaches at all level and
hockey clinics, we can keep promoting our kids and prepare them for the
competitive levels.
Please
find below the list of all our teams and the regular season records.

Our H. D.
program saw 65 kids participating this year of which 31 will graduate to Novice
next season. We held a successful fun day in Richmond on January 2nd.
We were also the hosts of the Canadian Tire Fun Day at the end of the season.
Dave and Pam Malcolmson of the Kanata Canadian Tire sponsor this event. This also brought a generous contribution to
the Richmond Food Bank on behalf of Kanata Canadian Tire and the RMMHA. Again
this year, the Malcolmson have helped us upgrade our equipment for the H.D.
program by supplying Goalie sticks, new socks and additional Jerseys as
required. On behalf of the RMMHA, we would like to thank the Malcolmson’s for
their continued support.
In
2009-2010, we would like to work on the coach mentorship program in conjunction
with the ODHA. This program is to help new coaches and assistant coaches. We
also want to bring more emphasis to skill development in practices at all
levels.
This year
we held 3 goalie clinics and 3 checking clinics with the support of the Olson
group. We intend to increase this for next year as well as adding a Power
Skating program.
Again
this year we enforced the LCMHL extra suspension program for players receiving
fighting major penalties. Suspended players were also required to meet with the
RMMHA Head Coaches before they could return to the ice. The players were asked
to explain their actions and understand the ramifications of such penalties.
The number of meetings was substantially reduced this year due to less fighting
majors.
Last
summer we expanded our summer ice program to include 8.5 hours of ice at all
age groups. The programs were well attended at all levels except for Midget.
The 2009 Summer ice program will be offered to Novice, Atom, Pee Wee, and
Bantam. Midget players wanting to participate will join with the Bantam
players. This year the program will offer 11 hours of ice, starting August 9th,
2009. This program is offered to RMMHA members only, house league and
competitive. We believe that this program has also contributed to the
association’s successes, giving our kids an early jump on the season.
Our
philosophy is to develop our kids to the best of their abilities and have a fun
experience.
HOCKEY,
WE PLAY AND COACH FOR THE FUN OF THE GAME.
